How long after applying will I receive my badge?

If you meet the automatic criteria your badge should be ready within five working days after an application form, correctly completed, has been received.

Applications, which are received under discretionary criteria, will take longer and can take up to 28 days of the required information being received. The reason for this is that an assessment may have to be made for you.

What do I do if my badge has been stolen or has been lost or has faded?

If your badge has been stolen or you have lost it, you must report it to your local police. You will be provided with a crime reference or lost property number. You will need to apply for a replacement badge from your local authority and if your badge has been damaged or is faded you must return it together with the replacement badge form. You will also need to send another passport size photograph that has your name and date on the back.

Do I need to own a car?

You do not need to own a vehicle or be able to drive. As the badge is yours, it can be used in any vehicle in which you travel as a passenger.

How long are badges issued for?

Badges are usually issued for a period of three years but if you have less than three years left on your Disability Living Allowance, mobility supplement the blue badge will only be issued for this time.

How do I renew my Blue Badge?

Badges must be renewed every three years. A new application must be made each time. You need to check when your badge needs renewal as reminders are not sent out.

I have been refused a badge. Can I appeal?

There is no right of appeal against a decision to refuse a blue badge.

You may ask for your case to be reconsidered if you feel that your mobility problems have become more serious or that all the facts, which were relevant, were not taken into consideration.

You would need to provide additional relevant information such as a report from a health professional, for example a physiotherapist or consultant.

A request to reconsider a case would have to be put in writing and sent to the local authority together with the relevant additional supporting information.
